A Few Simple Steps

Heals Tall

If someone were to ask you about interesting photography subjects a staircase would probably the last thing that you would think about photographing. However, as a result of a recent trip to London, I learned that with the right perspective, even a set of stairs can make for an absolutely stunning photograph.

After finding and photographing some well known spiral staircases in London, I started looking online for other locations in the UK. What became apparent was there are some less well known locations in places all over the UK many of which might prove hard to gain access too, but trying to find them is also part of the challenge. I guess I will have some research and planning to do locate them and to gain access? Anyway my on going photography project and challenge for this year will be to find and photograph interesting staircases that I find.

Here are some examples of images taken so far:

Looking online I found some interesting information about spiral staircases in relation to why they were designed, together with some of the technical challenges in building them. I would never have considered any of this prior to photographing them which just go’s to show another side of photography.

If anyone reading this knows of any locations of photogenic staircases please let me know.
